The Truth about Mayan Calendar.
Lately we have been scared by information about the end of the world coming soon. Those who have time to worry, worry. But is this scaremongering based on solid foundations?
The 2012 phenomenon is a cultural phenomenon claiming the winter solstice of 2012 will bring great changes to the World. At that day the Mayan Long Count calendar should come to an end. According to Czech scientists it should not be earlier than in 2156 but the most likely date seems to be 14 December 2116. Why is there such a problem with stating the date? Because the Mayan calendar is not very easy to understand.
The Mayan Long Count calendar which was used in Central America before the arrival of Europeans kept time in units of 20: 20 days made a uinal, 18 uinals (360 days) made a tun, 20 tuns made a k’atun, and 20 k’atuns (144,000 days or roughly 394 years) made up a b’ak’tun. Thus, the Mayan date of 8.3.2.10.15 represents 8 b’ak’tuns, 3 k’atuns, 2 tuns, 10 uinals and 15 days. The Maya believed in „World Ages“. According to their belives we are living in the Fifth Age of the World. Every Age comes to an end after 13 b’ak’tuns and the Fifth Age end should end on 21 December 2012 if we read the Mayan Calendar right.
The apocalyptic view of the year 2012 has been published by many hoax pages on the Internet. But the Calendar does not speak about the end of the world, only about the end of the Fifth Age. Moreover there is no significant astronomical event tied to the Long Count’s start date. „There is no credible evidence for any of the assertions made in support of unusual events taking place in December 2012,“ says the NASA Scientist. „Solar activity has a regular cycle, with peaks approximately every 11 years. Near these activity peaks, solar flares can cause some interruption of satellite communications. The next solar maximum will occur in the 2012-2014 time frame and is predicted to be an average solar cycle, no different than previous cycles throughout history.“
I hope you understand now that the date 21 December 2012 will be just another winter solice and the year 2012 will not bring the end of all the human race or our Earth. All that panic information was made up by people who wanted to be important. Nothing will be different from other years if WE WILL NOT DO ANY CHANGE OURSELVES. We can make a lot of changes. Not only in our lives but also in the lives of others. There are lots of areas which need our help and care. The Mayas loved celebrations and they believed that the new age will bring more humanity. What about making the year 2012 the Year of the New Beginning?
